Learning to Breathe

Every morning, I do a vinyasa (vigorous) or hatha (gentle flowing) routine to get my blood moving and wake me up a bit with the motion. I start with several sun salutations, then move into more challenging poses and a couple asanas (tricky inversions and things that could possibly injure you if you're not careful to align everything correctly).
I always find it difficult in the morning, though, to get into the "zone." The majority of my morning is so based on getting out the door on time, that every thought and reaction can be a stresser. Sometimes, it even makes it worse to think that I have to actually slow down now and do yoga. Slow down? Are you crazy? Do you know the valuable porridge-eating time I'll be missing?
But you know what? I am never, ever sorry that I took that thirty minutes, chilled out, cooled down, and flowed with my breath. I never regret that sense of peace I get from the stillness after a good workout. Even if it is a little hard to get into that "peaceful" frame of mind in the morning.

"The light in me salutes the light in you"

Namaste
