Libraries, libraries, and more...cybraries?

All right. I am officially jealous of Porland, OR for having such a neat library! O.k., o.k....Technically, it's not a "real" library. It's not state funded or anything. But it's a super creative idea!
You can get a membership (with valid photo i.d.) and take out up to five books at a time from the collection, for a period of two weeks. It has library programs and books clubs. And - oh yeah, have I forgotten to mention? - their collection is all hip, Indy subjects. Books about feminism, media, sexual studies, race studies, body image, pop culture, and more!
I really wish we had one of these around here! What a neat idea.
For more information, check out the website here.

Also, in library news, the Library of Congress has blocked access to Wikileaks on all of its computers. It claims that it did so under direct order of the White House, but when questioned, the White House later said that it had nothing to do with it.
So where did the information come from? I'm bothered more by the fact that the Library of Congress can't pin down and prove its source more than the fact that it's restricting information on its computers (which is also a frightening notion for a librarian). This librarian is certainly up in arms about the whole affair. And rightly so!

Keep on reading and classifying, my little bibliophiles!
