Laughing and Crying

I was walking back from lunch today and was struck by how quiet the halls were. Usually, at this time of day, they're swarming with shouting, milling, wandering students, all full and sassy from cafeteria food. Today, nothing. I actually stood and watched the reflection of the sun off the floor tiles for a moment.

My pondering is this:
I noticed that the same uneven, shuddering breath I employ for laughing is also the very same breath I employ for crying hysterically. Is everyone like this? Does everyone have one breath that they use - whether they recognize it or not - when under extreme emotion? Maybe we all have one breath pattern, period, and it is only when our guards are down that we employ it, so caught up are we with individuality. We all have one breath. I like that. Rather poetic. Rather Marley.
